| 2005 As soon as the 2004 season concluded, we began discussing how to make the car more competitive and to upgrade all of the components on the car. Dan, Blake and Joe agreed on what needed to be done to compete for the championship in 2005. The car was stripped down to the bare chassis, new components were ordered, a new body was prepared for the car, a new motor was built and a new paint scheme was developed. We acquired the best sponsors anyone could ask for. We also spent many hours performing much needed maintenance on the trailer and painting the inside walls. Discover Flooring continued their support and we picked up a unique marketing partner with Jon Wolfe Country Music. I am a better person for having known Jon Wolfe. What a great person and talent. The world needs more people with his character. Our team brought awareness to the Transition Resource Action Center where Joe volunteers and to Central Dallas Ministries who provides funding for TRAC. Texas Star Racing hosted a cookout at the Transition Resource Action Center in June to promote TRAC and acquire additional mentors. Fox4 came to the event and highlighted TRAC and Texas Star Racing during their newscast. Many hours were spent by Dan, Blake, Randy and Justin getting the car ready for the 2005 season. Blake was a senior at Maypearl High School and would graduate Salutatorian. We experienced a short season as Blake make a life decision to attend Bobby Isaac's Motorsports School in North Carolina. He moved to North Carolina in July following a trip that Blake and Joe took to the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway to celebrate his graduation from high school. At the time the trip was planned, no one knew it would also be a going away party. Blake graduated from Bobby Isaac's Motorsports School and now works for Evernham Motorsports in North Carolina. It was a bitter sweet year as Blake left our team to pursue the dream that many of us have; to work for a big time NASCAR team. No effort was made to put the car back on the track the 2nd half of the 2005 season. Joe decided to wait and see what the right thing to do would be by waiting until 2006 to consider next steps for Texas Star Racing. On Labor Day Weekend of 2005, we moved the car, trailer and shop tools to a new shop in Rendon. Texas. The street stock was purchased by Shea Crawford. Shea and his dad did a great job getting the car ready for the 2005 season. Shea move up from the Jr Mini Stock class to Street Stock and did a great job hanging in there with some seasoned talent.
Thanks for the memories guys! |
